System Of a Down formed in 1995. Serj (vocals) Daron (guitar) and Shavo (bass) were in a band called "SOIL" which formed in 1993. Shavo started hanging out with "SOIL" then became their manager, then became bass player. "SOIL" had a new member  and "SYSTEM OF A DOWN" was born. With the original drummer Andy they where off. They recorded 2 and a half demos with Andy. John (drums) joined the band during the recording of there 3rd demo (know, war?, and peephole). John plays the drums on war? And that is it.
At a show at the Viper Room (Hollywood) System caught the eye of producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chillie Peppers ect.). That lead to System singing to American Recordings in the fall of 1997. System then recorded there album which was produced by Rick Rubin himself. The album was released on June 29th 1998. They have kept a heavy pace touring non - stop with bands such as Slayer, Incubus, Fear Factory, Static-x, Spine shank ect. and also OZZfest 98 and 99.
Every member of System is Armenian. They are "proud of there heritage". The band is on a mission to make everyone aware that The Armenian Genocide did happen and that it was a great injustice.
If you see System live you are guarantied the best  show you will ever see.

SECOND ALBUMN?
Having tackled heavy political subject matter on their 1998 debut album, System Of A Down are apparently ready to lighten up. two songs on the group's new album, "Psycho"and "K.I.T.T."  are about groupies and the talking car from the Eighties TV show Knight Rider , respectively singer Serj Tankian adds that the band is also working on a "pretty heavy song about pajamas." THe Rick Rubin-produced album hits stores next March or April.------------excert from Guitar World magazine.

Is it me or is the fact that S.O.A.D. 's first album's politicalness was what made you a fan in the first place?
Hopefully they still talk about the same subject matter like they did in the first one!
